CASA

Business owner Lorenzo Puertas strives to make Croll's Pizza as environmentally friendly as possible.  Croll's is working towards certifying with the Green Restaurant Association (www.dinegreen.com/), a non-profit whose mission is to create an ecologically sustainable

restaurant industry.  Crolls has already taken several actions to be more environmentally friendly, including delivering pizza to nearby addresses via bicycle with a pizza trailer.  How cool is that?  He plans on sending his employees to one of BikeAlameda's free bike safety classes in the spring.  Lorenzo has also instituted recycling and composting at Croll's, and has changed the lighting to compact fluorescents.  His experiment with biodegradable knives, forks and spoon didn't work out so well, as they melted as soon as they touched hot food.  Back to the drawing board on that item!  Hopefully the next batch will stand up to the challenge.  Crolls Pizza is located at 705 Central Avenue (near Webster Street on the west end of town), phone 510-864-2828.  The pizza is delicious too!

Do you have a story to tell?  Have you completed a project at home or work?  Has your faith community undertaken an environment or energy efficiency project?  Is there and interesting project going on at your school?  We want to tell your stories in the next newsletter!

Do you know any local environmental heroes?  Tell us so we can feature them in these pages!

Are there tips and resources you would like to see highlighted?
